Where to Find Beautiful Dentures in Kernersville That Work
August 31, 2017
Dentures may still have a reputation for being uncomfortable or stressful, like the ones that slip around or fall out when you’re least expecting it. But these days, that reputation is (thankfully) far from reality. Today’s dentures are a natural-looking, effective method for replacing a number of missing teeth — but only if you visit an expert like Dr. Veronica S. Walker. She regularly restores smiles with full and partial dentures in Kernersville!
The Effects of Tooth Loss
No matter how many teeth you are missing, finding an effective replacement is of the utmost importance. That’s especially true when you’re missing several or a whole row of teeth. Tooth loss takes a toll on even the healthiest patients. Without the teeth and their roots, the jawbone lacks the stimulation and nutrients it needs to stay healthy and whole. Eating becomes difficult, speech may develop lisps or whistles, and smiling may become a thing to dread. If any natural teeth are remaining, they are at an increased risk of being lost, too.
Fortunately, Dr. Walker can help with natural-looking dentures. A denture is a row of prosthetic teeth secured in a plastic base that looks like your gum tissue. Full and partials are available, depending on your needs.
Full Dentures Replace a Whole Row of Missing Teeth
When you’re missing an entire row of teeth in the upper or lower jaw, a full/complete denture takes the place of the whole arch. Full dentures can be used to replace teeth in the upper or lower jaw. In the upper jaw, a piece of plastic covers the roof of the mouth. A lower full denture is shaped like a horseshoe so there is room for your tongue to move around comfortably. Full dentures are held in place with natural suction. An adhesive can be used if needed for additional security.
Partial Dentures Fill In the Gaps
If you still have some natural teeth that are functioning well, we want to keep them there — and a partial denture can help. It fits in with around your remaining teeth like a missing puzzle piece, providing excellent stability and keeping the rest of your smile in place. A partial denture is secured in the smile using metal clasps or brackets.
The Process for Dentures
It takes about a month to create a full or partial denture. To start, Dr. Walker will examine your smile, then take photos and a mold of your jaw and any remaining natural teeth. We’ll also carefully note the shade of any remaining natural teeth to ensure your new denture matches perfectly. It’s crafted in a separate lab, then sent back to us. In a follow-up visit, you’ll receive your new teeth and learn all about proper denture maintenance. Come in for regularly scheduled appointments after, when we check back in to make sure your denture is functioning just like it should!
