We Perfect Smiles with Porcelain Veneers in Kernersville
July 31, 2017
Too many people live with imperfect front teeth. But if you’re in the position to do something about those chipped, cracked, or stained teeth, why not take the necessary steps to reveal your very best smile? Choosing porcelain veneers in Kernersville is something like hitting the “refresh” button on your front teeth, or the six that show when you speak and smile.
Porcelain veneers are thin coverings created for your specific smile that we affix to the front side of each tooth. They’re usually made of porcelain, a material that reflects light just like your natural tooth enamel. Dental porcelain is highly stain resistant, so your new veneers can be expected to stay the same beautiful shade of white. Just take good care of them and visit your dentist every six months for a thorough cleaning and polish, and you’ll smile bright for years to come.
Are Porcelain Veneers Right for You?
Porcelain veneers can fix a variety of cosmetic issues affecting otherwise healthy teeth. This cosmetic option is best for adults. Teens younger than age 18 may still hit an unexpected growth spurt, meaning we’d have to replace each veneer.
Veneers are frequently used to improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, cracked, slightly misaligned, gapped, severely stained or discolored, or oddly textured/shaped. Teeth suffering from severe bite misalignments (overbite, underbite, severely gapped teeth, etc.) may still be better served by traditional orthodontics. Weak or worn teeth may require a sturdy crown or other restoration. Dr. Walker will evaluate your cosmetic issues to determine whether veneers are truly the best solution for your smile.
Elective cosmetic treatments are best performed on healthy teeth and gums. We will schedule a checkup and cleaning first. Any spots of decay or evidence of gum disease should be treated before beginning with porcelain veneers.
How Veneers Are Placed
If porcelain veneers are the right choice for your smile, they can be completed over the course of about two weeks and just two visits to Dr. Walker’s office. First, we will put together a treatment plan and make room on the teeth for the new veneers. By removing a thin layer of enamel from each tooth, we can ensure the new restorations blend in perfectly with the surrounding teeth.
We will also take an impression, or mold, of your prepared teeth. This information — along with the size, shape, and color of your veneers — is sent to our trusted partner lab, where the veneers are created according to your treatment plan. Once they are ready, you return to our office for their final placement. We know you’ll love your new smile!
